Rules and Academic Discipline

The college maintains a disciplined and academically vibrant environment.

1. Admission

(a) Admission to the College is entirely on merit and is conducted online as directed by the Govt. of West Bengal. All admissions are provisional and subject to final scrutiny. The Academic Session covers the period, from 1st July to 30th June each year.

(b) Number of Seats : 1410

The number of seats for each subject is given below as in brackets:

(c) Reservation of seats:

22% for S. C. , 6% for S. T. , 7% for OBC, 10% for EWS, 3% for Physically Handicapped from each category

N.B. :Students seeking admission under reservation quota are to obtain the minimum eligibility marks for consideration.

2.Payment of Fees, Fines etc. :

(a) Monthly fees are to be cleared during the month, failing which the names of students shall be removed from the Rolls. Defaulters will have to pay a fine of Rs. 5/- per month.

(b) Readmission fees for the next higher class must be paid by the students within the prescribed date to be notified.

(c) All the students shall have to clear the dues before their respective Selection Tests.

(d) Students, as applicable, are to pay the following fines:

(i) Late return of Library Books Rs. 5/- for the 1st week and Rs. 10/- for each subsequent week or part thereof.

(ii) For duplicate Identity Card Rs. 15/-

3.Refund of Deposits:

Caution money deposits of whatever sort will be refunded after making deductions for general and specific damages as found necessary. A failure to collect the refund amount within the time specified by the college, will lead to its forfeiture.

4.Attendance Requirements:

Students must attend a minimum of 75% of the classes held. Students attending 60% to 74% of the classes become Non – collegiate and students attending less than 60% of the total classes become Dis-collegiate.

5.College Examination, Promotions etc. :

(a) Students are to appear in all College examinations. Hons. Students are to appear in all periodic Examinations and Class Tests and Trimester Examinations (Science only) as well. Selection for the University Examinations well entirely depend on the performance in the college examinations.

(b) Students failing to appear in a College examination must submit satisfactory explanation for his/her absence subject to verification by the college before that specific examination is over. Alongside they are to pay the following fines :

Rs. 40/- for each paper, Rs. 100/- for total absence

(c) Students absenting themselves in periodical/ trimester examinations as well as Test Examinations, for whatever reasons, will be denied the permission for taking the University Examinations.

6.Transfers (to and from the College)

(a) Students seeking transfer from the College will have to pay all charges and dues for the session in full in addition to a Transfer fee of Rs. 100/-. The guardian is to sign the application for transfer.

(b) Candidates seeking transfer to the College are to obtain prior permission from the Principal and submit the documents as desired by him/her.

7.Identity Card :

Students are issued Identity Cards after the Completion of the admission process. This card is to be carried by the students while in the campus and to be produced for obtaining a Certificate, Library card etc. and also on demand by the authority or an authorized body or person.

8. College Discipline:

Some musts for students within the premises of the college :

(i) Without the previous permission in writing of the Principal

(a) No meeting of students shall be called / held .

(b) No public function to which any outsider is invited shall be organized, and

(c) No outsider shall be allowed to address the students

(ii) No theatrical performance, dance or show of any kind shall be held either within or outside the precincts of the college in its name except with the previous permission in writing of the Principal and on such terms and conditions as he may impose.

(iii) No student shall:

(a) By words spoken or written or by signs of visible representation offend or insult a fellow student or any teacher of the college or any employee of office or authority of the college.

(b) Misappropriate, destroy, mutilate, disfigure or otherwise damage any property of the college including furniture, books, equipment, apparatus, or

(c) Disobey any rule or order for the time being in force in the College or in the University.

(iv) Students are forbidden to indulge in any unseemly activities within the college compound .

(v) Students in their free time are advised to go to the Students’ Common Room or to the Library. Silence is to be observed within the college during class hours,i.e. 10-30 A.M. – 5-00P.M.

(vi) Students who are absent from their classes for more than 7 days in a month must submit letters from their guardians supported by relevant documents, if necessary, as soon as they rejoin their classes.

(viii) For a breach of discipline, committed by a student, the Principal of the college may :

(a) Warn him or her

(b) Impose a fine on him / her

(c) Suspend him / her from the college for a month or any short period.

(d) Expel him / her from the college for such period as he thinks fit.
